Playing is how I describe the creative process I take
my photographs through to produce a finished piece.
Often striking and dramatic, my work has a decorative
quality evident of a twenty year 'apprenticeship' as a
successful textile designer. My aim is always to achieve
something of beauty, with inspiration coming from
anywhere - even the most mundane of subjects.
I have no desire to produce documentary photographs,
preferring the stylised or representational works which
emerge, either by building up through layering and
intensifying, or by paring down and simplifying
detail and colour. Often no evidence remains that
the camera was ever my initial starting point.
I trained in Textile Design at the University of Leeds,
and, after freelancing in London for over twenty years,
moved to Dorset in 2007, where I now live
with my husband and Dalmatian.
