| The essence of my work is that I thoroughly enjoy the completely spontaneous process I take a photograph through to craft a finished piece. I am fascinated by the magical ways in which artwork can be adjusted and enhanced by the computer in innovative rather than imitative ways, and will always remain intrigued by its ability to throw in those little surprises.
My aim is always to create something of beauty, with inspiration coming from anywhere - mundane household objects, the energy of a stormy sky, a calm moment in time, or even a merger of all three. Sometimes striking and dramatic, and at others exquisite and fragile, my work has a decorative quality evident of a twenty year "apprenticeship" in textile design.
I have no particular desire to produce documentary photographs, preferring the stylised or representational works which emerge in their various forms. Whether I build up depth and texture by layering and intensifying images, or create bold, simple structures by paring down the underlying detail and colour, I feel quite edified when, as often happens, no evidence remains that the camera would ever have been my initial starting point.
Raised in Africa, I trained in Textile Design at the University of Leeds, and after freelancing in London for over twenty years, moved to Dorset in 2007, where I now live with my husband and Dalmatian.
